BBFC 0-1 Sedlescombe Rangers
“Small margins have big impacts. The search for third team success continues…”
We overcame disjointed pre-match preparations to more than match high flying Rangers. Ray Pennels made two great saves on 20 & 38 mins to keep a clean sheet. But Josh ElliotAdam Robinson (2) & Adam Thompsett also had chances to put us ahead. The second half was again very even, but both defences were mainly on top. Our down fall – I can’t remember uscreating a clear cut chance. Rangers created two. Ray made another tremendous save early on. Then on 69 mins a long ball led to a one-on-one situation where their forward had too much pace for our defender, & he slotted home past Ray. We rallied. Subs were used 7 formation changed. But we lacked our normal quality in the final third of the pitch – with the final pass often not being accurate enough.
Lessons learned:
– the first half injury to Josh Elliot was a blow as Josh was he was clearly going to be a threat to the Rangers defence
– why do I delay so much with substitutions? I have got to get rid of this thinking which says “its going to happen in next minutes…when it doesn’t”
– we solve one issue like defending & then another pops up. We need to think about front 4 partnerships that work best for us.
Positives:
– we more than match another of the leading teams in Div 5
– our best defensive display as a team
– a number of good individual performances including Adam Robinson in the no 10 role, & all the back four & Ray Pennels. But Calum Parker pipped the MOM
– our team spirit returned
– we are so close to being a consistently good team. Player availability & different options will help.
