BBFC 2- 3 Northiam 75 2nds
“Tremendous second half performance to get back into the game only to have our hearts broken on 89 mins. The sending off changed the game. I had forgotten what its like to lose – I hate it”
At the end of the day we had a mad couple of minutes in the first half when we gave away 2 sloppy goals & gave ourselves a mountain to climb to win this cup tie. Apart from that we played the better football, we bossed midfield & created a number of chances that drew brave saves from the Northiam keeper. Tactical changes at half time seemed to work when an excellent Adam Thompsett solo goal halved the deficit. Then on 68 minutes we experienced highs & lows. Firstly Calum Parker reacted first & equalised from close range after Northiam had failed to clear a Jamie Crouch corner. We then suffered a sending off for an alleged offence which all those who witnessed it said it looked like an accident.
This turned the game as we were on top & looking favourites to get the winner. I was so proud of the way our 10 men, including 2 substitutes, responded ….but tired legs gave the dangerous Hayden Reed a sneak at goal & he took the chance clinically on 89 mins. Regrets:
– we must reflect on what led to our sending off/caution so we eliminate them from our game
– I should have gone to 4-4-1 when we went down to 10 men, including making a couple of positional changes for players
– we gave ourselves too much to do, especially when you take into account unforeseen circumstances
– a semi-final place went begging.
– the calm & assured way we stuck to our game plan & worked hard to get back into the match
– the 2 goals that meant so much at the time
– we can only be beaten by something totally unexpected
– the only losses this season have been by the odd goal
– we still have 2 “cup finals of own” to win in the league & secure 3rd spot & possibly promotion
Reflect & recover fellas. Use the deep disappointment I witnessed today as real motivation & inspiration to finish the season in style. #verybestregards
