Herstmonceux 2-3 BBFC
“After a fantastic first half performance, we fought off a strong come-back to see the win through.”
Our first half performance in very difficult conditions with a niggly official was first class.Three goals in 24 mins saw us go 3-0 before the break. On 17 mins, Jamie Crouch was perfectly placed to round off Adam Thompsett‘s pass after some great work down the left flank by Aaron Davies. On 29 mins, Matt Ward reacted quickly from close range to Jamie Crouch‘s free kick after Aaron Davies had nearly scored first. On 41 mins, Jamie Crouch scored a neat volley from an Aaron Davies pass to score Jamie’s 17th of the season – 2 goals ahead now as Div 5’s leading scorer. Our skill (especially our quick feet) & our work-rate was first class & we snuffed out the threat of their Numbers 7 & 10 with a well organised & communicative defence. The half-time tak was easy – “keep doing what we ‘re doing…defend well…further chances will come”. IF ONLY. Herstmonceux put on two first teamers, who made a bif difference to them. We conceded 2 goals in 2 minutes at the start of the second half. On 47 mins a defensive clearance only found an un-marked Herstmonceux midfielder who scored from long distance. On 49 mins, we committed too may men forward & follwoing our corner, Herstmonceux counter-attacked & scored. Gary Thompsett & Giorgio Luis Andrade came on for the tiring Adam Thompsett & Josh Elliot, who had both played so well in the first half. We moved to 4-4-2 & from then on played out a very even game with little clear chances being made by either side. Even the unfortunate injury to the lively Giorgio didn’t affect us as Elliot Wallercame on to fit in a 4-5-1 to see out the last 15 mins without danger. Much credit to the players I haven’t mentioned – Shaun Utting (who made some good saves to keep our lead), Lee Costen, Chris Wakeford, Tich Chambers, Ben KempnerAdam Robinson & Ray Pennels. But my MOM goes to Aaron Davies for his strong running performance & assists on a very heavy pitch over 90 mins.
